About
the Artist:
My
husband, Tim, and I live in beautiful upstate New York in
a log cabin we designed and built ourselves. We love the hills,
wildlife and starry skies that surround us. It's a great place
to live and to create.
I'm
a past art teacher, and I've always enjoyed drawing and painting.
I never dreamed that gourds would become my favorite medium.
I am captivated by all of the creative possibilities that
gourds present. You can treat the surface of the gourd in
countless ways with stains, inks and paints, plus you can
carve it and sculpt it, or inlay materials. Gourds are somewhat
like wood in their appearance and workability, but also similar
to pottery. They are earthy and elegant, and each one is unique.
It's
a lot of fun to experiment and try new ideas. I will be collaborating
with fiber artist Jill Cline to incorporate felted wool into
gourd designs and create some lovely and unique works of art.
I am also developing some designs that are inspired by the
beautiful Adirondack mountains of northern New York. Check
back often to see what's new!
